Capgemini Retail Services Archives Data With StrongBox

From Crossroads Systems

Crossroads Systems, Inc., a
provider of data protection and storage solutions, announced that Capgemini Retail Services (CRS) is one
of the latest customers to deploy StrongBox, a non-proprietary, fully portable
digital archive for long-term data retention.

Headquartered in the Netherlands, CRS delivers managed services to a
wide variety of clients, including retailers in the Benelux region. CRS
customers operate a variety of retail locations, resulting in millions of
customers each week and a need to archive vast amounts of transaction and
product information.

CRS had previously archived much of their data with optical disk-based
storage. However, optical disk reached end-of-life status several years ago. As
disks could fail, and its archive volume grew too quickly, it became clear that
disk was not an easily integrated or scalable storage solution. And, as the
volume of digital data requiring long-term storage continued to grow,
maintaining inactive data on high-performance disk was not a cost-effective
solution. Functioning as NAS, StrongBox provides CRS with a simple, secure
file-based system for storing and accessing archived files using Liner Tape
File System (LTFS) technology.

StrongBox solved the need for a scalable, long-term archive. To meet
the growing demand for long-term data preservation, StrongBox can scale to
multiple PBs, supporting multiple drives or media without forklift upgrades or
licensing fees.

StrongBox’s data movement policies simplified data transfer into
StrongBox, maintaining the file-based structure of existing applications.

"This was one of the
simplest installations for a storage solution that we have seen,
" said
Tobias Titus, manager of infrastructure transformation services at CRS. "StrongBox provided the most compelling
pricing per gigabyte, while providing online, all-the-time access that has
revolutionized the way Capgemini and its retail customers manage their archive.
Now, the archive is becoming a dynamic part of the overall data center,
delivering content on demand.
"

After successful deployment of StrongBox, CRS is expanding its use
of the system for its internal needs, as well as additional clients.
