Atlantis ILIO Center 3.4
Automates ILIO deployments for VMware View customers.
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on September 6, 2012 at 3:03 pmAtlantis Computing, Inc. at VMworld 2012 announced the release of Atlantis ILIO Center 3.4, a solution that enables VMware View customers to automate the deployment and configuration of Atlantis ILIO across any number of servers and racks.
Deploying servers, networking and storage infrastructure for VDI is time consuming, costly and introduces operational risks that often derail VDI projects. Atlantis ILIO Center provides automated, deployment of ILIO to operationalize multiple racks of servers for thousands of users in less than one hour.
Deploying VDI with traditional storage or SSDs makes sizing, scaling, and management complex – and introduces risks to any project. When used in combination with ILIO Diskless VDI, ILIO Center 3.4 automation makes deploying and scaling VMware View stateless desktops simpler, cheaper, and faster – since deployment is automated with no storage to size, install or manage. Customers can achieve CAPEX cost below $200 per desktop with better-than-PC user experience.
ILIO Center is integrated with VMware Virtual Center to automatically install and configure ILIO for thousands of users. In addition, during the deployment process ILIO VMs are automatically created and registered as NFS data stores that are ready to use by VMware View Composer to complete the desktop provisioning process.
ILIO Center is designed to integrate with VMware View Composer Array Integration (VCAI), which will enable customers to offload desktop creation to ILIO for an automated desktop deployment experience.
What’s New in Atlantis ILIO Center 3.4:
- Automated Multi-Rack Deployment – Deploys ILIO on hundreds of servers across dozens of racks, providing Diskless VDI data stores for thousands of virtual desktops within 20 minutes.
- Automated Diskless VDI Sizing – Automatically calculates the optimal density based on available server CPU and RAM to configure ILIO Diskless VDI with no human intervention.
- VMware Virtual Center Integrated Deployment – VMware Virtual Center plug-in for a single point of management and deployment.
"We selected VMware View to provide virtual desktop access for users across our regional office sites as well as to provide remote access for mobile and home working," said Andrew Rice, Global Head of IT, BLP (Berwin Leighton Paisner LLP). "During our migration to Windows 7 and scaling out the environment in advance of peak remote working use over the London Olympic Games, we identified the need for more IO performance than we were getting from our shared storage infrastructure. Within two weeks of contacting Atlantis Computing, we deployed 1,400 virtual desktops using Atlantis ILIO Diskless VDI to deliver an amazing desktop experience with VMware View while at the same time freeing up our shared storage for redeployment. With Atlantis ILIO, we were able to significantly accelerate desktop performance for our users and ensure the continued success of the project."
"The Colt office of the future program has created a flexible working environment and helped to increase productivity. Using traditional disk-based storage architectures for VDI proved to be costly and complex to deploy," said Chris Hewertson, CIO, Colt Technology Services. "In collaboration with VMware’s professional services and Atlantis Computing, we were able to use Atlantis ILIO Center to automate the deployment Atlantis ILIO Diskless VDI VMs that turn Cisco UCS Extended Memory Technology into storage for virtual desktops."
"Customers are seeking ways to simplify their infrastructure as they make their journey to the cloud," said Vittorio Viarengo, VP, End-User Computing at VMware, Inc. "We are pleased to work with Atlantis Computing; their Atlantis ILIO Diskless VDI solution helps lower the cost of virtual desktops and simplifies storage operations."
"The combination of VMware View and Atlantis ILIO Diskless VDI is the ultimate answer to requests for simpler and faster deployments," said Bernard Harguindeguy, president and CEO, Atlantis Computing. "VMware View can be deployed to thousands of desktops in a matter of a few hours without the cost, complexity and risks of installing and managing storage. We look forward to continuing our integration efforts with VMware View and to using the new VCAI capabilities to further automate any deployment."
ILIO has been tested with VMware View, VMware ThinApp Linked-Clones and Persona as part of the VMware View 5.1 Stateless Reference Architecture with ILIO Diskless VDI and Cisco UCS.
ILIO is certified as VMware Ready and can be found within the VMware Solution Exchange.
ILIO Center 3.4 will be available by the end of September 2012 through Atlantis Computing and its solution partners.
