Smart Storage Demonstrates Up to 1.6TB 2.5-Inch 6Gb SAS SSD

MLC, 1GB/s sustained transfer rate R/W

SMART Storage Systems showcased a performing, large capacity enterprise SSD at Flash Memory Summit.

Available with up to 1.6TB of useable capacity, the Optimus SAS 2.5" SSD delivers a 1GB/s sustained transfer rate, while also achieving high endurance from consumer-grade MLC flash.

"OEMs and enterprise organizations have seen the power of SSD technology, however are often forced to make sacrifices between performance, capacity or endurance," said John Scaramuzzo, president of SMART Storage Systems. "The Optimus SSD is a game changer. In it, enterprise organizations and OEMs get the industry’s highest combination of performance, capacity and endurance, meaning they can deploy a single drive to meet all of their storage requirements."

The Optimus SSD delivers sustained read performance of 1GB/s in wide-port mode and random read/write performance up to 100K/50K IOPS, and is available in useable capacities from 200GB to 1.6TB.

It is equipped with SMART Storage Systems’ Guardian Technology Platform, a proprietary suite of enterprise features and endurance enhancement technologies that enable more cost effective MLC flash to be maximized for mixed-workload and write-intensive applications. The platform is made up of the FlashGuard, EverGuard and DataGuard technologies.

FlashGuard, an combination of Aggregated Flash Management and Advanced Signal Processing technologies, enables commercial MLC flash to achieve higher endurance levels, making it suitable for the enterprise environment.

With FlashGuard, the Optimus SSD is able to achieve 10 random drive writes per day for a period of five years.

DataGuard and EverGuard technologies ensure data integrity and drive reliability are not compromised, satisfying the demanding reliability requirements of tier-1 enterprise storage applications.
