This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on August 30, 2012 at 2:48 pmSynology Inc. launched the DiskStation DS213, a 2-bay NAS server that delivers a solution to share and protect data for office and workgroup environments.
"The introduction of DS213 continues Synology’s dedication to create one of the most easy-to-use and efficient storage solutions to satisfy the demands of our beloved users," said Darren Lin, product manager at Synology.
The DS213 features Web Assistant, a web-based system that completes installation and setup in few clicks. Combined with the Quick Start widget, users can simultaneously tour the DSM and begin immediate use.
Powered by a 2.0 GHz processor and 512MB memory, it delivers an average read and write speed of 108.4 MB/sec and 65.36MB/sec respectively under RAID-1 configuration in a Windows environment.
Designed as a cool, quiet, and energy efficient NAS server, it operates a 92mm fan with smart airflow design to keep the system running cool 24/7; noise level is minimized to 19.9 dB(A) through noise dampening design that is quieter compared to PC equivalents.
The DS213 is equipped with one SD card slot and two USB 3.0 ports that support transmission speeds up to 5Gbps for improved data transfer rate to external HDDs. Front mount hot-swappable hard drives are available to ensure continuous data availability without unexpected service downtime while simplifying maintenance and HDD replacement.
The DS213 runs DiskStation manager 4.0 (DSM 4.0), the OS of every Synology NAS Server. It provides features to boost user-productivity and simplify their tasks, all on a sleek user interface optimized for multitasking.
DS212, the predecessor of DS213, has received numerous media recognitions worldwide, including Best Performance award from the Polish PC World NAS server roundup.
