Starboard Storage Systems Support VMware vSphere 5 and vCloud

In hybrid SSD AC72 and AC72 ES 45-bay expansion shelf

Starboard Storage Systems, Inc., an hybrid storage for
application workloads, announced that its SSD hybrid architecture
supports VMware, Inc.‘s vSphere 5 and vCloud infrastructures.

VMware and
Starboard Storage AC Series combined offer improved performance, rapid user
provisioning and scalability in multi-protocol environments, resulting in a platform to supporting SMBs VM initiatives.

Storage performance is a critical component in a virtual
infrastructure. The ability to quickly access VMs as well as the data and
applications stored in them is crucial in a virtualized environment.

"Starboard Storage’s architecture combines flash and disk to
provide increased performance for customers,
" said Parag Patel, VP, global
strategic alliances, VMware. "With the rapid expansion of application
data, enabling management simplicity and performance is of utmost importance.
The Starboard Storage AC Series  will
deliver on this in VMware vSphere and VMware vCloud infrastructure
environments.
"

The AC Series is hybrid storage designed to provide solid state performance for active
data, while keeping data at rest stored on cost-effective HDDs. It simplifies managing application workload
environments which include virtualized data. Starboard eliminates SME customer
pain points with its Mixed Application Storage Tiering (MAST) architecture.
The MAST architecture features SSD acceleration
tiering and dynamic storage pooling with simplified provisioning and management
through Starboard Storage Apps.

Certified for VMware vSphere 5, the AC Series is for storage consolidation supporting protocols including NFS,
CIFS, iSCSI and FC, and enabling ease of management for mixed
workload environments. The AC Series’ capacity can be expanded on-the-fly up to
576TBs with load balancing across new drives as they are added. Drive
speeds and capacities can be mixed and matched within AC
Series.

"Supporting a high number of users in virtualized environments
requires a unique combination of performance, capacity and price that is
sometimes difficult to provide,
" said Karl Chen, CMO
at Starboard Storage Systems. "The Starboard Storage AC Series uniquely
addresses this by using solid state for performance for the 5% active data in
combination with affordable hard disks for the 95% data at rest, providing
customers with a fast, highly scalable storage.
