NovaBACKUP xSP 13 Makes Managed Cloud Backup 10x Faster
Through x64 support and new compression
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on August 1, 2012 at 3:11 pmWith NovaBACKUP xSP 13 data protection specialist NovaStor Software AG launches an accelerated and more efficient cloud backup platform.
Improvements such as x64 support and a more powerful compression achieve a ten-fold speed increase. Service providers can double the number of customer accounts on the same hardware, and reduce the cost of operating the service. Retention Management and Universal Restore provide further competitive advantages for customer acquisition and retention.
Cloud Backup 10x Faster And Twice As Efficient
NovaBACKUP xSP 13 enables providers of IT services to reduce costs and to offer a faster backup service. NovaStor’s focus is on making better use of existing storage infrastructure, both for the provider and the end user.
The operation of the storage server on x64 results in a substantial acceleration of the backup processes by the optimal utilization of available memory. The enhancements contribute to improved scalability. NovaBACKUP xSP 13 also processes large amounts of files in less time. A new compression method also makes full use of the power of multicore processors, reducing the load on the client system and shortening backup windows for customers. In a live test NovaBACKUP xSP 13 could complete the backup of 750,000 files with 110GB in 3 hours.
Retention And Universal Restore
NovaBACKUP xSP enables the provision of backup and restore as a service. Customers can backup their data both online with the service provider or to a locally available media. The latter option is mainly used to provide additional protection for critical data and to secure systems.
NovaBACKUP xSP 13 adds Universal Restore to restore the system to new hardware to the local backup features. The functionality is based on Win PE as boot environment and provides a reliable solution of restoring a system to new hardware in contrast to often unsuccessful methods of other products.
Another new feature added is retention management. It allows customers of a service with new retention management to define the retention period and the number of versions of each backup. Besides being able to meet regulatory requirements for data storage, users can customize their backups to their requirements. A positive side effect is the increase of system stability by the automatic deletion of obsolete backups.
Stefan Utzinger, CEO of NovaStor, said: "The market for cloud services, in particular, the B2B sector expects a massive growth. With version 13, we facilitate providers of IT services, managed services, cloud storage and online backup to enter one of the most attractive segments of IT in the coming years. Thereby, our solutions keep an eye on both the cost structures of service providers as well as the requirements of end users."
