Next-Gen XceedIOPS2 6Gb SATA SSD by Smart Storage Systems

Leveraging 24nm eMLC flash, 50GB to 400GB

SMART Storage Systems, in SSD technology, announced its XceedIOPS2 SATA 6Gbps SSD, leveraging 24nm enterprise eMLC NAND flash.

With the smaller 24nm process node, it provides enterprise organizations the performance and the reliability they require in a more cost-effective SSD, making it the company’s flagship SATA SSD for mainstream workloads.

As enterprise organizations work to manage ever expanding data sets, they require the high-throughput that SSDs deliver. However, to fulfill this need in mixed workload applications, organizations are forced to adopt either less-reliable client SSDs, or higher cost SLC SSDs. By leveraging the smaller 24nm geometry, the XceedIOPS2 SATA delivers the performance and reliability required for enterprise applications without commanding the price premium of SLC-based SSDs or risk reduced reliability commonly experienced with client SSDs.

Leveraging the SATA 6Gb/s interface, the XceedIOPS2 delivers up to 520 MB/s of sequential read/write speed and up to 60,000/40,000 random read/write IOPS.

Available in both 1.8" and 2.5" form factors, and ranging from 50GB to 400GB in capacity, it ensures reliability and data integrity with an error-correction and detection engine; multi-level data-path and code protection; data fail recovery; advanced thermal management features; and reliability backup power circuitry.

It also employs an efficient flash-management algorithm that includes bad-block management, wear leveling, and minimal write amplification. The drive is backed by a five-year warranty.

"Enterprise organizations have previously been forced to choose SSDs that were either too expensive or that didn’t provide the reliability and enterprise feature set required for their particular application," said John Scaramuzzo, president at SMART Storage Systems. "Our new XceedIOPS2 SATA SSD strikes the balance that enterprise organizations require by providing a deep enterprise feature set while passing on to the customer the savings that the smaller 24nm process node affords."
