Open-E DSS V7 Software Facilitates Load Sharing

EUROstor GmbH‘s ES-8700 iSCSI clusters with Open-E, Inc.‘s DSS software constitute a storage appliance for manifold purposes.

The interaction of a hardware RAID controller, the latest Intel Sandy Bridge technology, Intel E3 or E5 processors up to 768GB RAM (E5) and optional LSI SSD CacheCade technology ensures performance and failure safety at a reasonable price.

A second system allows the replication of data – for example to a different fire protection area. An automatic failover via a common virtual IP address thus creates a highly available iSCSI cluster.

The latest version of Open-E DSS V7 software represents a step towards optimal use of resources. So far cluster operation with automatic failover had only been possible in an active/passive mode, i.e. the second node started to operate only when the first node was no longer available. Now both nodes are able to manage their own volumes (active/active mode). The advantage: the entire resources of both computers can be used while the overall performance may be increased.

Moreover, ES-8700 storage servers offer the possibility to create snapshots (for example for a backup during the current operation) and they may also provide NAS volumes for CIFS and NFS. In addition to 36 internal hard disks the systems may be expanded with JBODs by means of an external SAS port. Optionally the systems are also offered with 10GbE ports.

"Often our customers asked for an active/active cluster solution. Now, with the new Open-E DSS V7 software, we are able to offer even more iSCSI performance in highly available storage concepts."

The price for the ES-8700 active/active cluster system with Open-E DSS V7 and Intel E3 processor on the basis of Sandy Bridge technology, for example in a 2U 24 slot housing, partially equipped with eight 300GB SAS hard disks each and four 1GbE ports, amounts to  €11,888.10 including VAT (€ 9,990.- without VAT).
