Winchester Systems Adds SSD-Based Database Accelerator

Delivering 200,000 IO/s, starts at $50,000

Winchester Systems Inc. introduced the DA-2300 FlashDisk Database Accelerator, a purpose-built SSD-based product that is designed to speed database, OLTP and other random access applications.

The unit clocks in (with 4 KB block size) at 73,000 sustained random IOPS, 213,000 sustained sequential IOPS with bursts from cache over 500,000 IOPS. The product speeds up database applications such as Oracle, SQLserver, SAP and MySQL by 2X to 25X.

FlashDisk Database Accelerator is housed in a 3.5" high (2U) rackmount enclosure with 12 high-performance, SLC SSDs. The SSDs are available in capacities of 100GB, 200GB or 400GB each, providing up to 4.8TB of total capacity in a single unit. It is compatible with any open OS and runs all popular databases including and standard application – plus supports VMware, Citrix and Hyper-V virtual environments.

"Now in its 12th generation, this is by far our fastest FlashDisk storage solution ever and is targeted for database applications where queries and reports run in record time. For example, a recent 3 minute 34 second query ran in just 16 seconds – or over 13 times faster, cutting time by over 90%," explained Jerry Namery, CTO of Winchester Systems. "We have increased the speed of our disk controller to keep pace with the electronic speeds of the SSD drives to create a true database accelerator," he emphasized. "You can just imagine the productivity increase in your environment," he added.

The SSDs in FlashDisk Database Accelerator provides endurance and is rated to deliver 30 full capacity writes per day for five years. Internal algorithms automatically load balance the internal SSD blocks to avoid ‘hot-spots’ that databases often create with frequent access to directories and common records. Also, these algorithms automate the replacement of bad blocks to make it completely transparent to applications. For added layers of protection above the internal SSD capabilities, it also supports RAID 0, 1, 1+0 modes for performance and redundancy.

It starts at under $50,000 and is available for delivery in 2-3 weeks.
