Moonwalk for NetApp
Aimed at oil and gas sector
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on July 3, 2012 at 2:44 pmMoonwalk Inc. continues to leverage its data management technology for NetApp, Inc. with a focus on supporting large projects with big data challenges.
With a genesis in the oil and gas sector, it provides management for large unstructured datasets. The product’s core design enables effective data management across storage tiers.
NetApp’s istorage solutions are a fit for oil and gas customers to leverage Moonwalk data management.
According to Duncan Wright, joint founder of PECC, and Enigma Data Systems, "The Moonwalk architecture is uniquely positioned to scale to meet the unprecedented data management demands facing the oil and gas industry. Up until now, companies have had a certain luxury of time in deciding how to manage and archive their data because developments in disk technology have more or less kept pace with the data growth rates."
"Effective data management and archiving have been seen more as ‘nice to have’ than as critical operational components. We are now seeing the issue of data management moving back from the periphery to center stage, particularly with the massive global expansion in coal seam gas activity," said Wright.
Moonwalk’s software provides metadata-level precision for file data. It proactively archives data according to rules and policies based on criteria such as age, size, file type, file name, file creator and much more. Its stateless architecture requires no additional overhead and is transparent to users and applications. The solution has no introduced points of potential failure which ensures performance and availability.
"Data management has a long history in the oil and gas sector," said Peter Harvey, CEO of Moonwalk. "Oil and gas companies have long had to manage vast quantities of scientific, engineering and survey data. Today, that challenge is made even greater."
"Moonwalk is pleased to be able to provide the oil and gas sector with the technology and services to meet these challenges," he said.
