Next Gen SGI SANtricity Storage Management System

Silicon Graphics International Corp. unveiled the next generation SANtricity storage management system, featuring Dynamic Disk Pooling (DDP) technology for worry-free storage, at International Super Computing’12 in Hamburg, Germany

The combination of SANtricity storage management software featuring Dynamic Disk Pooling technology deployed on the latest generation SGI InfiniteStorage 5500 (also available as an orderable feature for the IS5000 platform) storage platform brings together effortless flexibility, availability and bandwidth performance to create a system suited for data-intensive solutions.

Purpose-built for capacity and performance environments, the IS5500 is equally adept at supporting high-performance file systems (Lustre, CXFS, GPFS, FHFS, etc.) and bandwidth-intensive streaming applications. Its density disk shelf supports up to 180TB in 4U, providing space utilization for sites with vast amounts of data and limited floor space.

The IS5500’s next-generation RAID architecture brings value to sites with hundreds of large-capacity drives.

Dynamic Disk Pooling (DDP) technology minimizes the impact of single and multiple drive failures, and can return the system to optimal condition 10X faster than traditional RAID.

DDP simplifies management for IT professionals through the elimination of RAID and hot spare management, and is more flexible than traditional RAID by allowing capacity to be added in single drive increments thus lowering capital expense. Protection actually increases as drive count increases, and DDP recovers from failed drives in minutes while maintaining performance, effectively enabling worry-free storage.
