… And lower price metric for archive data only
On tape or VTL
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on June 19, 2012 at 2:38 pmTivoli Storage Manager (TSM) Suite for Unified Recovery V6.3 from IBM Corp. can be ordered under a charge metric that applies only to archive data that resides on tape or VTL as opposed to backup data.
TSM Suite for Unified Recovery – Archive Option is a new chargeable component that is more cost effective per terabyte than the standard charge metric for TSM Suite for Unified Recovery V6.3.
The entitlements for this new component apply only to data classified as ‘archive’ data within TSM that results from running an archive operation, and the data must reside on tape or VTL within the primary storage pool. An archive operation is designated either via the TSM’s user interface itself or through API.
Data stored on virtual tape appears to TSM as physical tape. The TSM Suite for Unified Recovery – Archive Option price applies to the capacity level recognized by TSM (which equates to the amount of data sent to the virtual tape). Subsequent deduplication of data within a VTL does not reduce the capacity level recognized by TSM.
