Fred Cox Not Seeking Re-Election to Emulex’s Board

Co-founder worked 34 years with the company.

Emulex Corporation announced that after more than 30 years of service with the company, Fred B. Cox, Emulex co-founder and current chairman Emeritus, will not seek re-election to the board at this year’s Annual General Meeting of Shareholders.

"On behalf of the board, I want to thank Fred Cox for his dedication and contributions to Emulex since he co-founded the company in 1978," said Jim McCluney, CEO, Emulex. "We wish him well in his future endeavors."

Fred Cox served as Emulex’s CEO for more than 12 years, from the company’s inception until he retired from active management in October 1990. He then served as non-executive chairman for an additional eight years, and he has continued to bring his executive leadership experience and a deep understanding of technical, operational and strategic business goals to the board as chairman Emeritus and a director to the present date.

His planned retirement from the board in November will mark 34 years of service to the company.

Prior to Emulex, he was founder and CEO of Microdata Corporation and then of California Data Processors. Previously, he was engaged as an independent consultant and in engineering positions with a number of other companies in Southern California, including Beckman Instruments.

Cox received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) degree in 1956 from Texas A&M University, and he received a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) degree in 1958 and an Electrical Engineer (EE) degree in 1959, both from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

"Emulex has been an integral part of my life for much of my career, and I consider myself fortunate to be a part of this outstanding organization. Most of all, I have had the opportunity to work with the many wonderful and talented people who have made Emulex what it is today," said Cox. "I am proud of the many accomplishments of Emulex and its employees and for the benefits they have provided to our stockholders and customers. Our success is exemplified by the fact that very few of our high-tech contemporaries from 34 years ago remain in business today. Jim McCluney, the board of directors, and the management and employees of Emulex have my full support and best wishes for continuing future success."
