European Launch of Mozy Data Shuttle

Mozy, part of Decho Corporation, an EMC company, completed a pilot project and launched the Mozy Data Shuttle in Europe.

Data Shuttle is a new service that transfers or ‘shuttles’ an encrypted copy of big data sets from customers to Mozy’s data centres to reduce the time needed to complete the initial upload for online backup service.  

The announcement follows just weeks after the launch of MozyEnterprise, the company’s offering tailored to larger businesses. Together with MozyEnterprise or MozyPro, Data Shuttle helps businesses to protect their server data.

Data Shuttle solves  problem for businesses that want automatic offsite backup but can’t wait weeks for the initial backup to the cloud to complete. It provides a secure method of backing up large volumes of data and millions of files using one of Mozy’s two-terabyte Iomega hard drives to handle the initial upload.

Business customers backing up servers with an initial upload in excess of 100GB) of data will receive a Data Shuttle to populate with their data before returning it by prepaid courier to Mozy for ingestion. This enables customers to avoid the initial upload over the internet and decrease their ingestion time from weeks to days.

Data Shuttle is available both from Mozy and its resellers.

Secure upload to the cloud
With the addition of the Data Shuttle service, Mozy is raising its standards of security. Prior to shuttling server data to its world-class ISO 27001 certified and SSAE 16 Type II audited data centres, the Mozy software double-encrypts the dataset with a generated key or a personal key, and a single-use Data Shuttle key (for added security).

"Mozy wants to make backup as easy as possible for everyone, and this is one more example of us removing another big obstacle for our customers," said Claire Galbois-Alcaix at Mozy. "The feedback during our beta tests has been incredible: uploads that might have taken weeks online are complete in days making migration projects as painless as possible."

With the launch of Mozy Data Shuttle in Europe, business customers in the UK, France, Germany, Ireland and the USA are able to take advantage of data-upload service. Costs for vary with the amount of data being shuttled.
