Datto Launching GenISIS

Solution to upgrade backup hardware to SIRIS appliances

Datto Inc., provider of hardware based on-site and off-site backup, disaster recovery and business continuity solutions, launched GenISIS, a solution that is used to upgrade existing backup and disaster recovery (BDR) hardware to Datto SIRIS appliances.

GenISIS allows MSPs, VARs and other IT solution providers to leverage existing hardware investments, while taking advantage of Datto’s ShadowSnap agent and Inverse Chain Technology.

SIRIS appliances upgraded by GenISIS operate identically to the devices created and sold by Datto, which ensures that users will not have to sacrifice features or capabilities.

"We know there is extensive demand for a solution that can repurpose existing BDRs, so we are very excited to bring this technology to our partners. GenISIS is a real game-changer and is going to open up a lot of opportunities for IT solution providers to leverage existing hardware and make additional profits," said Austin McChord, Datto CEO.

To upgrade an appliance, the solution provider will attach Datto’s proprietary USB stick to the desired hardware, insert the boot CD into the CD-ROM drive, and then reboot the appliance. Once the system boots off the stick, the user will follow onscreen instructions to configure the RAID and complete the upgrade. Once the stick is removed, the system will function as a new Datto SIRIS appliance.

The purchase of a single GenISIS Upgrade Kit can be used to repurpose an unlimited amount of BDR appliances.

About Datto’s SIRIS
It is business continuity solution designed for MSPs and VARs. It simplifies and streamlines the backup process by taking the image chain out of the backup equation. Data is taken directly from the server and converted into vmdk files, which allows for fast recovery. This hybrid cloud solution offers instant on-site and off-site virtualization, which prevents SMBs from experiencing costly downtime in the event of a disaster.
