IBM Corp.‘s System Storage TS7620 ProtecTIER Deduplication Appliance Express is designed to improve backup and recovery operations without requiring major changes to the existing infrastructure.

It requires ProtecTIER Entry Edition software, and may be configured as a VTL, an OpenStorage system interfacing with Symantec NetBackup, or as the target for a CIFS-based backup application.

This is an option for mid-size and enterprise customers with smaller remote offices that need to address rapid data growth.

Other enhancements included in ProtecTIER V3.2 are designed to provide SNMP alerting improvements and enhancements to the security interface for the ProtecTIER Manager GUI. When combined with the TS7620 ProtecTIER Express Model SM2 appliance, it can help deliver up to twice the storage capacity of the TS7610 Model SM1.

ProtecTIER V3.2 continues support for the Symantec NetBackup OpenStorage (OST) API announced with ProtecTIER V2.5, and for the VTL interface that has been the foundation of ProtecTIER offerings. Supported replication grid configurations for ProtecTIER OST and ProtecTIER VTL systems are unchanged with ProtecTIER V3.2.

• Reduction of data volume through deduplication of up to 25:1
• Function that is non-disruption, easy to deploy and to scale

Key prerequisites
ProtecTIER Entry Edition software is loaded on the System Storage TS7620 ProtecTIER Deduplication Appliance Express to create a TS7620 ProtecTIER Deduplication Appliance solution. A separate order for System Storage ProtecTIER Entry Edition software is required.
