Fusion-io Powers Seven New Gen 2 HP IO Accelerators
For ProLiant Gen8 servers
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on June 1, 2012 at 2:55 pmFusion-io, Inc. is enabling high performance database and virtualization solutions with seven new Fusion-powered HP IO Accelerator for the HP ProLiant and BladeSystem platforms.
Integrated into HP ProLiant Generation 8 (Gen8) servers, the HP IO Accelerators can boost application performance to address organizations’ growing requirements to accelerate data-intensive applications.
To enable enterprises to enhance their data infrastructure, one or more HP IO Accelerators can be integrated within servers according to application and organizational needs. They sit inside the server on the PCIe bus with CPUs and memory, rather than external to the server in a storage array being accessed over slower links. They boost applications by bypassing traditional storage controllers and unlocking trapped compute cycles.
"Fusion-io is pleased to work with HP to deliver major advances in server and system performance for modern enterprises," said Gary Orenstein, Fusion-io VP of Products. "The new HP ProLiant Gen8 servers and IO Accelerators provide customers powerful solutions that accelerate their most important data applications."
HP is the first to market with Fusion-io’s Gen 2 technology, and by deploying it within ProLiant Gen8 servers, customers are able to build flexible, cost effective and scalable solutions while reducing datacenter complexity and the associated operational costs, including management, energy, and space. Additionally, new HP IO Accelerators in traditional ioMemory form factors will be compatible with the ProLiant G6 and G7 Rack-mount servers, ensuring application acceleration for multiple generations of HP servers.
"Clients are seeking ways to accelerate application performance to drive increased productivity and user satisfaction," said Jim Ganthier, VP of Marketing, Industry Standard Servers, HP. "Combining IO Accelerators with our HP ProLiant Gen8 servers enables clients to speed data access while improving service levels."
With capacities up to 2.4 TB, the Fusion-io powered HP IO Accelerators deliver performance density and efficiency to improve the economics of accelerating compute performance for virtualized, data-intensive and transactional workload environments. Compared with first generation, the Gen 2 IO Accelerators keep applications running at top speed with a twofold latency reduction to deliver 15μs sustained write access latency. The new IO Accelerators also provide up to a 5x boost in read IOPS, at 892,000, up to three times higher write IOPS, at 935,000, and double the bandwidth, at 3GB/s.
"The new HP IO Accelerators with VMware View provide an efficient and powerful solution for desktop virtualization deployments," said Vittorio Viarengo, VP, End-User Computing, VMware. "Customers benefit with increased virtual machine density, scalability and performance within the new HP ProLiant Gen8 servers when deploying the IO Accelerators. This is a strong value proposition for customers using this technology as a part of their desktop virtualization deployment."
