Recovery Tool to Retrieve Backup Files Immediately

By Safeberg, with 800 character key on paper

Safeberg BV offers a new recovery tool that helps users recover data from remote data backups.

To access online remote backup, a client has to open Safeberg restore, login and connect. At this stage Safeberg’s special paper key should be used. This is an 800 character key that should be printed on paper and stored in a safe physical location.

When required, the client can open a just scanned or photographed copy on his computer. The stress here is on the word ‘just’.

"With the key, and only with the key, Safeberg Restore can decrypt your file names in your backup data online. So, now you can select the files you want to restore. Safeberg Restore then retrieves your encrypted files from Safeberg remote backup services and decrypts them on your computer. Yes. There they are back where they belong,” said Ms. Maria Pallas, the spokesperson for Safeberg, as she explained how the tool works. "Did you notice you data never left you PC unencrypted and your key was never online?” she asked.

For privacy and safety, Safeberg recommends that clients follow some basic rules when using the paper key. The key with which encrypted backup is decoded should never be saved along with the data stored or by the organization storing these files.

During the installation process, the client should choose the ‘Ultimate Security’ option for printing the key onto paper. Alternately, it could be saved in a memory stick. The key should never be saved on the computer.

Multiple prints stored in safe physical locations are recommended, especially if the online file backup contains sensitive information. The file if stored in a memory stick should be in .jpg, .png or .gif format. The key can be opened either by photographing or scanning it or by retrieving it from the memory stick in order to access online remote backup files.
