Arkeia Doubles Capacity of Disk-Based Backup Appliances
At around 240TB after de-dupe, from $27,400 with FC connectivity
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on May 28, 2012 at 3:06 pmArkeia Software, Inc. announced a firmware upgrade to its R320 and R620 disk-based backup appliances, doubling the capacity to accommodate a larger range of storage and data protection applications in remote offices, regional offices, and enterprise data centers.
R320 and R620 backup appliances, 2U in height, will now support up to 48TB maximum raw capacity. Capacity beyond the internal limit of 24TB is now provided by FC-connected, third-party disk arrays. Because Arkeia’s Progressive Deduplication technology reduces the size of backup by a ratio of typically five to one in typical backup sets, users can effectively manage 240TB of non-deduped data.
Taps Partners to Deliver Add-on Storage
Arkeia channel partners can now connect third-party disk arrays via FC to already-deployed Arkeia appliances. All model R320 and R620 backup appliances are field-upgradeable from 12TB to 24TB, and now to 48TB. The additional disk will expand the volume of target storage.
"Arkeia’s award-winning appliances are a great solution for our customers of any size," said Ron Griffin, director of Business Development at Padova Technologies, Inc. "The data needs of small to medium companies continue to increase and data protection appliances that can grow with customers’ needs over time is invaluable. None of our customers wants to provision up-front the full capacity that they’ll need in two or three years. With Arkeia’s field-upgradeable appliances, our customers enjoy a scalable data protection solution that respects cap-ex planning constraints."
"Complexity, cost of management, and total cost of ownership of backup and recovery solutions need not be high in order to achieve high capacities, particularly when deduplication is used to conserve storage resources," said Bill Evans, Arkeia CEO. "Doubling the maximum disk capacity of Arkeia’s popular backup appliances means they will appeal to even more mid-market organizations, as well as better accommodate the growing needs of current Arkeia customers. Arkeia channel partners can leverage established storage hardware relationships to quickly deploy third-party storage disk arrays and expand Arkeia appliance capacity."
Expand Backup Capacity
Without Re-engineering Backup Architecture
"The combination of Arkeia’s data deduplication technologies with increased capacity of its rack-mounted appliances makes for a very appealing solution for companies that need to expand their backup infrastructure in an easy and efficient way without having to adopt more costly and cumbersome upgrade alternatives," said Deni Connor, founding analyst of Storage Strategies NOW. "Arkeia’s R320 and R620 appliances are a great way for organizations to go from standard backup operations to deployment of more advanced data protection strategies without the need to re-engineer their backup architecture. Arkeia is a compelling choice for a singular backup solution that delivers a multitude of backup strategy options."
Availability and Pricing
R320 and R620 appliances are available. Appliances bundle Arkeia Network Backup and agent software for up to 60 client machines. Pricing for appliances with fibre-channel connectivity begins at $27,400.
