Zmanda, Inc., provider of open source backup solutions and an HP AllianceONE partner, announced availability of its cloud backup solutions integrated with HP Cloud Services, the new public cloud services from HP.

Amanda Enterprise (AE), Zmanda’s network backup product, now natively supports backup of databases and applications running on HP Cloud Compute services. In addition, data and applications can be backed up to HP Cloud Object Storage.

HP Cloud Storage Option for Amanda Enterprise enables system administrators to backup their business critical data to cloud storage. Amanda Enterprise can perform network-wide backup of heterogeneous systems, including Linux, Windows, Solaris, and OS X-based systems onto HP Cloud Storage.

Amanda Enterprise has been integrated with HP Cloud Object Storage using the open REST-based API provided by the OpenStack Swift cloud storage platform. It encapsulates each backup archive as an object and stores it on HP Cloud Object Storage. Backup archives are created in open formats (e.g. ZIP64 for Windows and tar for Linux). This open architecture enables businesses to store their data on the cloud with no hassles and hidden costs of vendor lock-in. In addition to being able to recover their data using ecovery interface, users can browse, read or delete their data objects through HP Cloud Services’ online management console.

Amanda Enterprise provides cloud backup features such as location control, bandwidth throttling, and parallel streams for backups and restores. With it, corporate compliance and rules of governance for data retention and security are managed easily. The entire backup environment can be managed from a single console.

Amanda Enterprise is an enhanced and supported version of the popular open source backup and recovery software. It allows users to backup, archive, and recover servers, workstations, desktops, and business-critical applications across a network. The backup data and archives can be stored on disks, tape, optical devices, or storage clouds such as HP Cloud Object Storage.

For users running their MySQL databases on the HP Cloud Compute services, Zmanda Recovery Manager (ZRM) for MySQL provides a scalable solution for hot backup of databases. Users can backup hundreds of MySQL databases running on HP Cloud via ZRM running on a virtual server on HP Cloud Compute.
