IBM SVC With 2.5-Inch MLC SSD Options

The IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller
(SVC) provides a combined hardware and software storage virtualization
system designed to centralize and consistently manage and operate
heterogeneous storage environments.

The SVC Solution can help:

• Simplify storage infrastructures and reduce costs by combining the
  capacity from multiple disk storage systems into pools, which are more
  simply managed from a central point
• Get more out of existing storage assets by improving utilization,
  automating, and provisioning, and by making storage more accessible to
  host applications
• Improve administrator productivity
• Avoid storage-related causes of application downtime, including data migrations

IBM System Storage SVC models CG8 and CF8 offer two new drive types to
expand its line of 2.5-inch small form factor (SFF) drive options:

• 200GB 2.5-inch SSD (E-MLC)
• 400GB 2.5-inch SSD (E-MLC)

Key prerequisites
Existing feature number 4500 (solid state device attachment) is required
to install one or more SSDs (#4601, #4602, or #4604) on IBM System
Storage SAN Volume Controller Storage Engine Model CG8 or CF8.
