Actifio PAS Platform and IBM Hardware Chosen by News-Press & Gazette Co

Accelerating delivery of cloud backup and DR

Actifio, Inc., a Protection
and Availability Storage (PAS) platform company, announced that News-Press & Gazette Co. (NPG) launched a
suite of cloud services based on PAS platform integrated with IBM
hardware.

The solution from Actifio and IBM enables NPG to offer multiple cloud services
– including instant backup, DR and test and development – from a single
virtualized platform while reducing capital expenses by up to 90 percent. NPG
is now able to accelerate delivery of cloud services for its customers while
delivering critical data management services at a compelling price point.

To date, service providers and VARs have not been able to deliver on
the economic promise of the cloud due to their reliance on legacy technologies
and IT architectures that create silos of physical infrastructure and
applications. By combining server, storage and data management virtualization
technologies with a purpose-built (SLA-driven
operational model, Actifio and IBM remove the cost, operational and complexity
barriers that have prevented partners from providing in-demand cloud-based
storage solutions to their clients.

With Actifio PAS in place, NPG has accelerated its service provider
business by targeting the needs of companies ranging from enterprise
class to local SMBs. Companies need DR-on-demand,
backup-as-a-service, data access on-demand and business continuity without the
expense of opening and managing their own data center location.

Since 1845, NPG has delivered news and information to customers
across the Central and Western United States. Its properties include daily and
weekly newspapers in Missouri and Kansas, and 14 broadcast outlets consisting of
radio and television stations in California, Idaho, Oregon, Colorado and Texas.
In an effort to diversify its business and leverage an extensive network
infrastructure and talented IT staff after divesting its 45 year old Cable/ISP
business that served over 83,000 customers, NPG selected Actifio PAS as the
technology enabler for managed and self-service cloud data management
solutions.

"Actifio’s turn-key
solution enabled us to very quickly deliver multiple data management cloud
services that are in high demand in our key markets. With its easy-to-use
interface, Actifio PAS enabled us to capitalize on the huge market demand for
cloud services – without being chained to legacy technology and infrastructure,
"
said NPG EVP and CTO Liam Catherall. "By leveraging Actifio’s PAS, we were able to break into the cloud data
management service market and build out differentiated services easily without
technology constraints in only 60 days.
"

NPG customers can leverage these cloud services to enhance overall
data protection capabilities across their organizations while improving data
protection services – without the expense of opening and managing a
second data center location.

"2012 is the year of
cloud data management – especially for service providers,
" said Ash
Ashutosh, CEO, Actifio. "They need
to respond to the overwhelming user demand to transform IT into a service and
drive down operational and capital costs. The Actifio PAS platform and IBM
partnership allows them to meet this market need for cloud services and deliver
a fundamental transformation of IT as a service.
