Panasonic Adds Three-Slot P2 Device With USB 3.0 Interface

AJ-PCD30 P2 drive at $2,255

Panasonic Solutions company announced the AJ-PCD30 P2 drive, a three-slot P2 device with USB 3.0 interface that delivers fast offloads from a solid-state source.

The USB 3.0 standard facilitates higher transfer rates, which achieves offloading AVC-Intra 100 footage at more than 15X real-time, making the PCD30 suited for use in long-form video production.

The PCD30 can transfer data from up to three P2 cards simultaneously, making content immediately available to nonlinear editing systems and servers. With three 64GB P2 cards inserted, the device can offer access to more than three hours of AVC-Intra 100 or DVCPRO HD, or more than six hours of AVC-Intra 50 or DVCPRO50 content.

The PCD30 can be used externally, or can be installed in the five-inch bay of a Windows-based desktop for use as a built-in reader. It is compatible with Windows and Macintosh operating systems but it will transfer data at USB 2.0 rates when used with Macintosh computers because they do not support USB 3.0 at this time.

The AJ-PCD30 P2 drive will be available this summer at a suggested list price of $2,255.

About P2 HD
P2 HD all solid-state products offer high definition recording without the mechanical wear and environmental limitations of tape, hard disk, and optical disc based systems. It ensures high reliability, especially in challenging conditions of extreme temperature range, shock, and vibration. P2 HD products provide a reduction in maintenance costs, longer useful product life, and immediate access to recorded video (no need to digitize, ingest or create proxy video files) and metadata. P2 HD provides the reliability of solid-state production; the connectivity to existing IT infrastructures; the speed, ease of use and portability of P2 cards; and interoperability with NLE systems.
