Authorizing LTO archival to Thunderbolt
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 23, 2012 at 2:48 pmTOLIS Group, Inc. was demonstrating at the NAB Show bundled solutions that utilize the Thunderbolt interface to expand support of LTO tape connectivity following a partnersship with Sonnet Technologies, Inc. and ATTO Technology, Inc.
Broadcast, film and music industries can now enjoy flexibility in their ability to archive their creative assets.
With the increased performance and storage capacities provided by today’s Apple Mac laptops, iMacs, and Mac Mini systems, users have been replacing larger Mac Pro desktop systems for day-to-day editing and field operations. Until now, the process of archiving digital assets to LTO tape was restricted to the studio using larger, more costly systems. The new Thunderbolt-based bundles from TOLIS Group allow compatibility with today’s performance, capacity tape technologies to laptop and all-in-one Apple systems.
"TOLIS Group has been providing critical data backup and archival for over 27 years and supporting the Apple creative space with backup and restore solutions for over 10 years. Being able to extend that support fully to the Thunderbolt-enabled Apple laptop, iMac, and Mac Mini platforms means that all levels of creative users have a complete solution for both backup and restore as well as archival of their digital workflow, regardless of the system that they use," said Greg LaPorte, VP sales and marketing at Sonnet Technologies. "Sonnet is pleased to partner with TOLIS Group to provide our new Echo Express Thunderbolt to PCIe chassis to enable this new solution. Mixing BRU PE’s reliability and ease of use, Thunderbolt’s ease of connectivity, and TOLIS Group’s providing a single sourc for all of the required components and support makes the new BRU PE Thunderbolt bundles a great solution for the production world."
TOLIS Group’s president and CTO, Tim Jones, continued to say: "We are very excited by the expansion options that the Sonnet Technologies Echo Express Thunderbolt solutions provide for our support of the creative market space. Sonnet’s introduction of the Echo Express chassis combined with the ATTO Technology ExpressSAS controllers allow us to bring high performance and flexible archival and backup solutions to platforms other than the venerable Mac Pro systems. Options are now available so backup and archival operations to tape can now occur as easily for a Mac Book Pro user on location as are performed in the studio with a dedicated Mac Pro system."
The Thunderbolt-enabled solutions include all currently available SAS LTO-4 and LTO-5 standalone, rack and automation solutions and include the new BRU Producer’s Edition 3.0 software, necessary cables, media and support.
TOLIS Group’s extent of BRU PE bundles meets the needs of content producers and delivers single-sourced and integrated components, performance and flexibility, and a single point of contact to manage the bundle components.
