Percona XtraBackup 2.0 for MySQL and Server
With parallel compression and streaming incremental backup
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 13, 2012 at 3:04 pmPercona, Inc., in faster and reliable MySQL, announced XtraBackup 2.0, an open source hot backup solution for MySQL and Percona Server.
The new version offers parallel compression and streaming incremental backups to increase backup performance. In addition, XtraBackup 2.0 supports node provisioning for recently announced XtraDB Cluster.
XtraBackup enables backups without blocking user queries, making it for companies with large data sets and mission critical applications that cannot tolerate long periods of downtime. Offered free as an open source solution, it drives down backup costs while providing unique features for MySQL backup.
XtraBackup 2.0 is a free, open source solution. Parallel compression and streaming incremental backups reduce backup time for larger data sets and enables larger databases to be backed up onto remote machines.
It enables faster system recovery times by backing up metadata that allows a restored server to warm up in minutes instead of hours or days. This is important in the cloud where disks are slower, and on powerful commodity servers with large amounts of memory. XtraBackup 2.0 supports node provisioning for XtraDB Cluster and is a drop-in upgrade for the InnoDB backup engine.
Vadim Tkachenko, co-founder and CTO for Percona, said: "With XtraBackup 2.0, Percona has once again made MySQL better. With fast, efficient, non-blocking backups and a rich feature set, this open source solution supports the use of MySQL for larger, mission critical datasets that must be backed up without downtime."
The company provides enterprise MySQL support, consulting, training, and development services to companies such as Cisco Systems, Alcatel-Lucent, Groupon, and the BBC.
