Front Porch Digital announced LYNXdr, a secure, cloud-based, disaster recovery and long-term asset storage service for the media marketplace, from broadcast to government.

It is the first commercially available product from the company’s LYNXsm cloud-based content storage management (CSM) initiative announced last fall –  integrating cloud-based online video publishing (OVP).

"LYNXdr gives our customers an inexpensive, secure, automated off-site content storage management capability without needing to invest in capital-intensive technology," said Phil Jackson, Front Porch Digital CMO. "Effectively LYNX takes DIVASolutions and wraps it in the cloud. Buying CSM as a service really makes sense as it can grow to meet the changing needs of the business, and new and unique services can evolve on the platform further adding value over time while being available on demand, both from Front Porch Digital direct and our trusted partners."

LYNX technology is an integrated cloud-based environment for managing assets on a global scale, from any device and any location. Leveraging established secure cloud technology, the LYNX family of products supports a range of networked and distributed solutions, giving media organizations a next-generation approach to global asset management with a range of benefits in adaptability, on-demand scalability, capital cost reduction, and simplified maintenance.

Integrated with multiple, geographically diverse hosted CSM solutions based on the company’s DIVArchive technology, LYNX services provide a route to sustained profitability in fluid and competitive operating conditions by offering rapid infrastructure deployment on demand, matching IT investment to revenue opportunities, and making it easier to bring new channels to market, for both play to air and online delivery.

The LYNXdr service ingests file-based video content via networking and data tape shipment. Users have the option of managing the ingest and restore processes manually from supplied software, or automating the processes to make ingest and restore invisible and seamless background tasks. Each LYNXdr service comes with the software to network existing DIVArchive implementations to the cloud and with the option of a hosted implementation of media asset management system DIVAdirector V.5 to view system-wide content.

LYNXdr is commercially available in the United States and demonstrated at the NAB Show on the Front Porch Digital. This will be followed by an official launch event of the European platform to be held in the U.K. on May 10, with further planning underway for a late 2012 Asian launch.
