NewsGator and StoredIQ Form Alliance
Helping organizations to be more legally defensible
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 12, 2012 at 3:04 pmAs enterprise knowledge grows in size and complexity, organizations need
smarter solutions for identifying risk and governing information, especially
social business content. NewsGator
Technologies, Inc. and StoredIQ,
Inc. are confronting this growing challenge so that companies can
adhere to policies, regulations and litigation demands while collaborating
effectively.
The two companies have formed a strategic alliance to address the
concerns that social computing introduces to governance/compliance, eDiscovery,
storage management and records management.
"Typical governance solutions
haven’t kept pace with the growth of social data, the evolution to a
collaborative environment, or the multitude of collaborative content types,"
said Christine Taylor, analyst with Taneja Group. "StoredIQ’s Platform helps NewsGator Social Sites 2010 customers manage
this risk in an efficient and cost-effective way."
StoredIQ gives organizations visibility and control over unstructured business
information by identifying, analyzing and acting on unstructured data across a
broad range of data sources. These sources include email, data archives,
content and record management systems, including the SharePoint
collaboration platform with NewsGator’s Social Sites. StoredIQ provides
content indexing by over 100 attributes of 400 file types across the
SharePoint/Social Sites platform, including NewsGator Activity Streams,
Communities, Micro blogging, Questions & Answers, Social Profiles, Idea
Stream and Spotlight.
eDiscovery and Records Management
In conjunction with Social Sites, StoredIQ is an information management
solution for handling corporate data in a global business climate where
legislation and regulatory bodies play critical roles in records management and
eDiscovery. To reduce the time investment and expense of legal discovery,
StoredIQ analyzes data in place for true early case assessment, streamlining
the entire range of key eDiscovery processes, including identification, legal
hold and notification, collection, and first-pass review. StoredIQ records
management capabilities include record identification, policy automation, data
retention, disposition and deletion. Leveraging the power of a single
information management platform, it supplies contextual
reference for any piece of content within SharePoint for holistic data
collection and classification.
Risk identification and remediation
StoredIQ helps companies understand the full context of their data within
SharePoint and NewsGator Social Sites, regardless of implementation size, and
identify potential risks associated with business-critical assets and personal
identifiers such as account numbers, Social Security numbers, credit card
numbers, trade secrets, financial records, strategic business plans and
IP/source code.
Storage management
Together with NewsGator Social Sites, the company proactively manages enterprise
data storage, automatically retaining information according to corporate
governance and regulatory mandates while disposing of unnecessary data with
confidence. It includes capabilities for file store cleanup, data migration,
tiered storage and HSM.
Reporting
StoredIQ provides Social Sites with multi-dimensional metadata explorers and a
variety of customizable and schedulable reports that can be consumed in a
variety of different formats.
"Social business and collaboration
data is as important to an organization as traditional enterprise data
contained in email and file shares, and it requires all the governance, risk
management and compliance capabilities of traditional enterprise communication
methods," said StoredIQ president James Schellhase. "StoredIQ provides a holistic information
management solution for both traditional and social business data, without any
additional burden on enterprise business users."
Melissa Risteff, NewsGator’s SVP of marketing and corporate development,
elaborated: "Addressing the myriad
of legal, records management, and compliance issues that arise when social
computing comes into play can be complex. Regulations are plentiful and
violations are expensive. It is critical that companies consider their strategy
for supporting secure collaboration within the structure of their security
policies and also within the context of existing federal regulations.
NewsGator’s partnership with StoredIQ ensures that collaboration flourishes and
enterprise security interests are proactively protected."
