SCSI Trade Association Accepts SCSI Express as Formal Project

PCIe storage initiative

The SCSI Trade Association (STA), a member-run industry association established to support and promote SCSI technology, has accepted SCSI Express as a formal project and has taken ownership of refining, defining and marketing this data storage industry standard initiative.

SCSI Express is an industry initiative designed to adapt storage to PCIe. It utilizes the SCSI over PCIe (SOP) and PCIe architecture queuing interface (PQI) model being defined within the T10 Technical Committee.

STA has accepted the responsibility for using the efforts of T10 to refine its definition and to market this approach to PCIe-based storage.

"SCSI Express will continue to preserve a 30-year legacy of software/middleware investments while co-existing with existing SAS products," said Harry Mason, president of the SCSI Trade Association and director of Industry Marketing for LSI Corporation."It’s a strong investment protection story that allows systems to use traditional SAS-based products and leverage them into systems opting to also deploy PCIe-based storage devices."

SCSI Express, 12Gb/s SAS and other SAS demonstrations will be shown at the STA-sponsored Technology Showcase: Taming the Data Storage Beast, event on May 9, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency in Santa Clara, CA.
