Second Qualification of Stec by NEC
For M-Series disk arrays
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 6, 2012 at 3:04 pmStec, Inc. announced that its enterprise ZeusIOPS SSDs are now qualified across the complete NEC M-Series disk
array platform that includes M100, M300 and M500 products.
The integration of Stec’s ZeusIOPS SSDs into the next-generation NEC Storage
M-Series platform will supplement SAN applications that
include enterprise virtualization, server consolidation and cloud computing.
The NEC M-Series represents the second qualification of Stec’s
third-generation ZeusIOPS SSDs into NEC disk arrays, with previous
qualification into D-Series products occurring last year. The integration across the NEC Storage M-Series disk array platform will extend
the choices and capabilities available to NEC SAN customers configuring their
systems to their business and informational needs.
"Data is growing at an
unprecedented rate, and to meet the intense requirements of today’s enterprise,
our storage solutions must respond quickly and flexibly to these sudden
increases in data volume," said Tetsuyuki Hishikawa, director engineering, NEC’s Storage Products Division. "We are pleased to continue our partnership with Stec by qualifying
ZeusIOPS SSDs on our M-Series and D-Series disk array platforms. Accelerated
data access, high reliability and low power consumption are attributes that our
customers require for their mission-critical applications in SAN environments,
and STEC will continue to help us accomplish these with an efficiency that sets
them apart."
"NEC is at the top of
their game when it comes to developing platforms that manage large volumes of
data storage for the enterprise," said Stec VP of Technical Marketing,
Scott Stetzer. "For Stec to become part of NEC’s M-Series disk array platforms
with our high-performance ZeusIOPS SSDs says a lot about the strength of our
partnership with NEC."
Available across NEC’s M-Series disk array product line, the
ZeusIOPS SSD supports a SAS interface in both 2.5-inch
and 3.5-inch form factors. It also offers an array of options,
including a range of capacities, and sustainable IOPS.
Fundamental to the ZeusIOPS SSD family is Stec’s patented SSD
controller architecture, which provides enterprise-optimized storage devices
with a combination of performance, reliability, endurance and
energy efficiency. Stec’s SSD controller and associated firmware are engineered for demanding environments with high workloads and
continuous duty cycles where HA access to stored data is required. The
controller includes enabling technologies, wear leveling,
over-provisioning, ECC algorithms and data-path
protection features that combine to create a secure SSD.
NEC’s M-Series disk arrays for SAN applications provide a balance of performance, affordability and functionality. Product setup is
simple and can be accomplished in 15 minutes or less, and the embedded GUI
interface makes storage management and data handling easy.
The M-Series also includes software that performs such tasks as thin
provisioning and replication to enable capacity distribution in a virtualized
environment. Each M-Series disk array (M100, M300 and M500) utilizes a
power-efficient processor, optimal control of the fan, massive array of idle
disks (MAID) technology, and Stec SSDs to reduce power
consumption.
