balesio FILEminimizer at US Marines Recruiting Command

Reducing Outlook email traffic and bandwidth

balesio AG announced that its Native Format Optimisation (NFO) solution for Microsoft Outlook environments, FILEminimizer Suite, has been adopted by several large US federal agencies.

The NFO solution FILEminimizer Suite has been developed by balesio to help organisations tackle the continuously growing volume of unstructured data (MS Office, image and PDF files) especially in email environments. By implementing this solution, organisations can lower the increasing costs for communicating via email with unstructured data files and reduce not only growing demand for email storage but also significantly improve email data traffic and network performance.

For the US Marines Recruiting Command, one of the federal agencies having adopted the solution, email is the most popular means of communication across its multiple divisional offices, with staff frequently sending a range of attachments such as PowerPoint presentations, Word documents, Excel tables, images and PDFs. While this is necessary, the masses of unstructured data have put a heavy strain on the communication bandwidth and network traffic. The Agency chose to tackle the problem at the source and implemented NFO solution FILEminimizer Suite across the whole organisation.

The Agency’s IT department experienced a drop of between 50 and 90% in the size of attachments being sent out following the adoption of the solution. Email network traffic and bandwidth have equally been reduced and the growth rate of Microsoft Outlook .PST files has also flattened resulting in savings for the agency.

The responsible unit’s CIO states: "We are sending many Microsoft Office files via Outlook and realised that these were the cause for the high email storage growth we were seeing. balesio’s solution FILEminimizer Suite has reduced our file sizes by sometimes up to 90%."

The spokesperson adds: "With the software’s seamless integration in our MS Outlook environment, email attachments are now optimized directly in MS Outlook reducing our email storage and network performance requirements efficiently at the source. It has saved us tens of thousands of dollars so far."

Chris Smith, COO at balesio, comments: "We are seeing growing interest in our NFO technology around the world, as customers are confirming that they can reclaim almost half of their primary storage capacity, helping them to make dramatic savings in storage, network traffic and bandwidth resource."
