X-IO Said Hyper ISE Outperformed All Storage Systems Tested By Microsoft Partner Solutions Center
Over last three years
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on March 26, 2012 at 3:15 pmX-IO Technologies announced that its Intelligent Storage Elements (ISE) and architecture have proven in several recent benchmark tests to deliver record-breaking price/performance, unlimited scalability and failsafe availability for enterprise-level applications.
In addition to powering unmatched results in tests involving Microsoft SQL Server, X-IO’s ISE-2 and Hyper ISE storage systems offer solutions for Microsoft virtual desktop infrastructure, virtual server infrastructure and data systems.
"MPSC hardware-testing projects are designed to put maximum stress on systems so that customers can have the utmost confidence in deploying them in support of business-critical functions," said David Hayes, senior director of the Microsoft Partner Solutions Center. "In such a demanding context, XIO Hyper ISE performed beyond our wildest expectations. Hyper ISE performed better than any other storage system we’ve tested over the last three years. We were driving the servers to the max, but we were barely putting a dent in the Hyper ISE performance. It seems the more we throw at it, the faster it gets. X-IO has become one of my top-tier solutions."
In a joint test with the Redknee telecom application and Microsoft SQL Server, X-IO’s Intelligent Storage delivered 24x the price/performance of the company’s previous storage solution. Another benchmark test involving Temenos Group AG’s banking software running on Microsoft SQL Server 2012 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise found Hyper ISE enabling 300% more transactions per minute than is possible with a pure SAN solution.
X-IO’s plug-and-perform ISE solutions deliver price/performance, scalability and availability through three key features:
- Each ISE brick is a complete storage building block, featuring clustered on-board controllers that manage a performance pool comprised of both HDD and SSD capacity. Storage control is scaled with capacity to fuel price/performance. No matter how many ISE bricks are added to increase capacity, storage performance is maintained.
- Intelligent software optimizes application performance. X-IO’s Continuous Adaptive Data Placement (CADP) software monitors application data in realtime – seeking hotspots that preface performance problems. When a potential hotspot is identified, the associated data is automatically and transparently migrated to performance SSDs, without application disruption.
- ISE is reliable and cost-effective to operate. ISE blocks are continuously monitored for any impending hardware issues. Potential problem drives are rebuilt in situ (both HDD and SSD) ahead of any failure, without application degradation. Each ISE block consumes less footprint, power and cooling than traditional storage, even as ISE delivers price/performance and capacity density for data-intensive applications.
"We have taken the price/performance lessons of ‘always on’ mainframes, and applied them to a new type of architecture that allows for unlimited scalability," said Steve Sicola, CTO of X-IO. "The resulting Intelligent Storage solutions provide affordable, reliable and scalable price/performance for enterprises of all sizes. When a customer tells you that your technology enables them to tackle a recurring ten-hour reporting task in less than ten minutes, you know you’re onto something."
X-IO designed its Intelligent Storage Elements and Architecture from the ground up to Xcelerate enterprise applications. It was designed to be cost effective for customers, driving storage price/performance regardless of their big data needs. It also simplifies storage configurations, deployment and ongoing cost of operations.
