Spectra Logic
Corporation announced its expansion and increased resource investment in
Australia and New Zealand.
The company’s decision to further increase its
global presence is the result of escalating data growth and the need to
manage it.
As part of its expansion, Spectra Logic has increased its presence
in Sydney and is investing in sales support and technical staff, including the
addition of Michael Cocks as Country Manager for Australia and New Zealand.
Spectra Logic is also investing in a channel recruitment program
and has signed numerous reseller partners as part of SpectraEDGE reseller program, including SGI, Storm FX, UXC
Connect, Techtel, Data Engines, Intraware and Magna Systems.
"Having a local presence
in the ANZ region will enable us to offer enhanced, efficient local support and
expertise, thus enriching the overall experience of our customers,"
said Brian Grainger, vice president of worldwide sales, Spectra
Logic. "Organizations need
intelligent, integrated, and easy-to-use archive, active archive and backup
solutions to manage, protect and preserve their growing data volumes.
Throughout our 30+ year history, Spectra Logic has delivered high-density,
feature rich storage with unmatched service and support."
The Australian National University (ANU) located in Canberra, one of the top universities in Australia, recently deployed two
Spectra Logic T950 enterprise tape libraries at the heart of its tape-based active archive to support ANU’s high performance private
data cloud storage solution. In addition, ANU hosts the National Computational
Infrastructure (NCI) – Australia’s national high-end research computing
service. The enterprise requirements of ANU, together with the research needs
served by NCI, have led to an increasing requirement
for data storage and management.
ANU and NCI evaluated the best solution for its needs and, after
careful evaluation, chose Spectra Logic’s archive solution within a SGI storage
cloud because of its high data reliability, scalability, and extreme cost
efficiencies in terms of space, energy usage and total cost per TB.
"With more than 7PB of initial critical research data that streams in and out of high
performance instruments, computational and data-intensive processes, as well as
an increasing need to share data for international data-centric collaborations,
the Spectra Logic system forms a central component of our storage cloud,"
said Dr. Ben Evans, associate director of NCI.
"The incorporation of
the Spectra Logic’s active archive solution provides a platform for storage
growth," said Allan Williams, director of
information technology services at the ANU. "It allows us to keep our primary data online and accessible to users,
while also increasing the reliability of our stored data across physical sites."
"We are delighted that
Spectra Logic has increased its presence in the region and look forward to
continuing to work with them as our data needs inevitably evolve,"
added Dr. Evans.
In the ANZ region Spectra Logic will offer its complete line of
automated tape library solutions from its entry-level T50e, mid-range T120,
T200, T380 and T680, and enterprise scale T950 and T-Finity libraries.
In addition to its Australia/New Zealand presence, Spectra Logic has
offices in Europe, the United States, Canada, and India, and customers in
more than 40 countries.
