For SME collaboration, file storage, team workspaces and backup
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on March 12, 2012 at 2:47 pmGladinet, Inc. has selected Google Cloud Storage to provide cloud storage solutions for collaboration, file storage, backup and team workspaces.
Martin Buhr, head of technology partnerships for Google Cloud Platform, commented: "We are excited to have Gladinet join a select group of companies we are working with to augment our platform. Gladinet’s focus on helping SMEs get into the cloud more quickly with minimal disruption is a great fit with a large segment of our customer base."
These solutions will be provided by the Gladinet Cloud with Google Cloud Storage infrastructure and the companies will work together to promote them through their respective channels.
Google Cloud Storage is a performance service for developers to store and access data in Google’s cloud. The service offers developers direct access to Google’s scalable storage and networking infrastructure as well as authentication and data sharing mechanisms. It leverages the power of this service to provide online collaboration, online file storage, offsite backup and team workspaces. It can also integrate with existing local storage to create a hybrid cloud with centrally managed, unified access.
As an example, Gladinet’s CEO, Jerry Huang, explains: "A common use case involves attaching a local folder to Google Cloud Storage and publishing its content to users, while centrally managing access controls through a web interface. Access can then be provided through drives on user desktops, network file shares and mobile devices. In this scenario, the local folder is synchronized with the Google Cloud Storage regardless of where changes occur and because there is a local copy, the data remains accessible even when Internet connectivity is lost."
The ability to replace traditional backup media with cloud storage is another example of the utility of unified approach. In this case, a third party backup application can send data to the cloud through the existing file system interfaces, making the cloud migration completely transparent to the application.
"We are excited by this opportunity to work closely with Google. Google Cloud Storage gives us the technology we need to make Gladinet solutions even more robust and higher quality. Leveraging the Google Cloud Storage infrastructure for the Gladinet Cloud helps provide the kind of scalability and performance that customers are looking for," stated Jerry Huang, Gladinet’s CEO. "And this partnership broadens the scope of enhancements we can provide to our customers."
