Norwegian School of Economics Adopts Tintri VMstore

To overcome disk-based storage bottlenecks with SSDs

Tintri, Inc. announced that the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH)
has deployed Tintri to support its virtual environment.

NHH credited Tintri’s
flash-based storage array and native VM-aware features for helping them
overcome the storage bottlenecks that had previously plagued their
virtualization project. The university also plans to deploy VDI on Tintri in
the coming quarter.

NHH has 120 virtual servers in production; its IT infrastructure
serves a global network of over 3,700 current students, faculty, and staff.
Their network is accessed around the clock and requires high uptime. Tintri
VMstore is supporting NHH’s SharePoint implementation, among
other applications.

"Tintri takes an
innovative approach to storage for virtual environments and offers performance
that was unmatched by any other solution we evaluated,
" said Thor-Inge
Naesset, Director of Information Technology Services for the Norwegian School
of Economics. "Their efficient use
of deduplication allows us to run everything in flash, with plenty of room to
spare. Storage used to be a real headache for us. With Tintri, we just don’t
think about storage anymore – it’s not a problem.
"

NHH, which began virtualizing applications in 2005, was suffering
performance issues with their legacy disk-based storage hardware in production.
The university debated adding flash as cache to their existing solution, but
deemed it unrealistic due to both cost and complexity. NHH credits Tintri’s
efficient use of deduplicated and compressed MLC flash in its solution. The
university now runs everything in flash, but at a less expensive
price point.

"NHH is one of a growing
number of customers we’ve worked with in the European market to overcome
storage-centric bottlenecks posed by virtualization,
" said Marcus
Chambers, Tintri VP of EMEA Operations. "There’s clearly a growing interest in flash-based storage across the
board, which presents a great opportunity. We’ve built a product that delivers
superior performance at an accessible price point, especially compared to the
prohibitively more expensive all-flash arrays that have been entering the
market of late.
