Mellanox FDR 56Gb IB and 40GbE Interconnect
Now optimized for Intel Romley and Sandy Bridge platforms
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on February 29, 2012 at 3:08 pmMellanox Technologies, Ltd. announced that all of its end-to-end FDR 56Gb/s InfiniBand and 40GbE interconnect solutions are available and have been optimized for the forthcoming Intel Romley and Sandy Bridge platforms.
Mellanox brings to market interconnect technology optimized for the new Intel and PCI Express 3.0 platform, delivering 56Gb/s IB and 40GbE.
The combination of PCIe 3.0’s ~60Gb/s throughput and Intel’s new platform will require high-bandwidth interconnect technology. FDR 56Gb/s IB and 40GbE products, optimized for Romley and Sandy Bridge, ensure that servers utilizing Intel’s new platform will be fully utilizedt.
Mellanox ConnectX-3 PCI Express 3.0 FDR 56Gb/s IB adapters and 40GbE NICs, and SwitchX FDR 56Gb/s InfiniBand and 40GbE switch systems are available and include OEM support from such vendors as Dell, HP, and IBM.
"The upcoming Intel Romley and Sandy Bridge technologies and the emergence of PCIe 3.0 are designed to support higher bandwidth requirements," said Steve Conway, IDC research vice president for technical computing. "For some data center upgrades this year, 10 Gigabit Ethernet will not be enough. Next-generation data centers will want to exploit the performance potential of FDR 56Gb/s IB and 40GbE. By positioning itself to offer bandwidth up to 56Gb/s, Mellanox aims to address the high bandwidth, low latency needs of this market."
"Intel’s new platform provides end-users with even greater application performance provided they are connected with interconnects supporting 40Gb/s and above bandwidth speeds," said Eyal Waldman, chairman, president and CEO of Mellanox Technologies. "Mellanox FDR 56Gb/s InfiniBand and 40GbE interconnect solutions will ensure IT managers the highest performance and return-on-investment in their data center server and storage upgrades."
