New Apps for HiDrive Free
Fast slideshow of images, improved exchange of files with other apps and OS
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on February 27, 2012 at 2:50 pmThe Mobile World Congress is the launch pad for the new Apps for HiDrive Free – the free online storage.
Smartphone and tablet users with iOS, Android and Windows Phone can look forward to new features.
The two most important new features include a fast slideshow of images, and improved exchange of files with other Apps and the operating system, so that it’s much easier to manage your files. The Apps are available for free in each respective marketplace. To activate a free 5 GB online storage account, click over to http://www.free-hidrive.com or activate a new account through the App.
Current Digicam or photos on your mobile can be several megabytes in size, sometimes too big when you need to just quickly show one or two photos. Yhe HiDrive Apps automatically format a small preview, so that it’s easy to scroll through picture galleries as they were stored on the smartphone. The original files of the photos remain unchanged.
In iOS, you can save files to HiDrive from other Apps, or open files out of HiDrive with other Apps – for making quick corrections to your documents. You can also upload photos directly from the camera. With Android, the whole gallery can be uploaded in the background, so the newest photographs are always saved. In Windows Phone, you can save pictures in the Picture Hub.
Online storage is the complement to smartphones. Not only is it extends the limited memory, online storage is also a place to safely store your backups. Furthermore, files which are too big to send by email, can be shared as an individual download – also a feature of the App.
"With HiDrive Free, users benefit from plenty of storage space to save important documents, holiday pictures or music files. In short, everything of value that should not get lost. And the best thing is – it’s free," said Damian Schmidt, Chief Executive Officer of STRATO, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom. "Normally, data is bound to the medium on which it is stored. But anyone who uses HiDrive Free for storing files can access them anytime and anywhere – at home, at work, or on the move via smartphone or tablet."
HiDrive Free can also be mounted on to a user’s computer like a local drive and supports Microsoft Windows, Mac and Linux. It employs safety measures: data is stored in a certified and secure data center in Germany which is governed by German data privacy law – one of the strictest in the world in terms of data protection.
HiDrive Free is available worldwide in English, Spanish, and German; Portuguese launches in March 2012.
Starting in March, users can earn extra file space for free by inviting friends. If users want more storage space, additional sharing features, and ways to access their HiDrive account, premium packages are also available, ranging from 100GB up to 500GB of storage space. HiDrive 100 costs 9,90€/month and HiDrive 500 is priced at 29,90€/month. Prices include VAT. Contract period is 3 months. Premium packages offer users more sharing options including file upload via email or web form and additional protocols like SMB/CIFS and rsync for professional use.
