Start-Up VeloBit Increases Application Performance at ZoomInfo
With "a quarter of the hardware"
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on February 9, 2012 at 2:50 pmVeloBit, Inc., a provider of plug and play SSD caching software, announced that its VeloBit HyperCache has supported Zoom Information, Inc., a business information provider, to increase the performance of its Solr-Lucene-based search application by 4x using existing servers and commodity SSDs.
"Running our structured load tests where we replayed actual production traffic across our test systems showed we were able to sustain an average of just over 12 requests per second. These same tests run across the now Velobit-charged systems showed an average of almost 49 requests per second – a huge performance increase," said Dave Carroll, Director of Technology Operations at ZoomInfo.
VeloBit HyperCache installed in 5 minutes on the running servers without changing server configurations or interrupting service. VeloBit automatically configured to use commodity SSDs on the ZoomInfo servers. VeloBit HyperCache increased both the average number of search requests served per second and the bandwidth (measured in kB/second), resulting in an overall 4 times increase in Solr-Lucene performance. This kind of performance increase provides a 75% reduction in hardware and monthly operating costs.
"What I like most about VeloBit is how simple and easy it is to install and operate," said Carroll. "It acts like a memory upgrade that hyper-charges my existing servers. It enabled me to get the search performance improvement with a quarter of the hardware, saving me the hardware, power and cooling, and lab space costs as well as the headache and management oversight normally associated with infrastructure upgrades. It’s a no-brainer for any cost-conscious IT Manager, especially in small to medium sized businesses."
"SSD offer great promise for breaking the I/O bottleneck that affects many business applications, but SSD adoption has been hampered by the cost and complexity of current deployment options," said Duncan McCallum, co-founder and CEO of VeloBit. "Our all-software solution leverages innovations in content locality caching and line-speed data compression to deliver break-through performance at a dramatically lower cost. The reliability of our software and the simplicity with which it installs and operates is a credit to our talented and experienced engineering team."
