American Megatrends India Rolls Out SafeTrends 2.0

CDP software for Windows to protect digital media

American Megatrends India Pvt Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of American Megatrends Inc. and a technology player focused on embedded, storage and telematics solutions, announced the launch of SafeTrends 2.0.

SafeTrends 2.0 is a CDP software suite for Windows environments that offers complete protection of valuable digital media. SafeTrends 2.0 is a backup solution for SMBs and SOHOs running Windows-based desktops and laptops.

SafeTrends 2.0 employs a variety of innovations to backup and restore important data, by continually monitoring changes in selected files, and backing them up on one or more selected locations (local machine, local area network, corporate intranet, Internet/cloud). With both local and remote backup options, it provides users to choose what data they want to save, and the time and storage location for the same. One can also specify how many versions of a specific file or folder need to be saved. Consequently, SafeTrends 2.0 features the events log to review the activity and fine-tune the performance of a particular project.

The software includes data reduction techniques such as a sliding window deduplication and compression to ensure that backup capacities are optimized. While doing backup over a network, data is encrypted to ensure safe and quick transmission. Subscribers to cloud storage services such as Amazon S3 can connect to cloud accounts and use these data stores as a designated location for SafeTrends 2.0 backup.

New feature
This version of SafeTrends features the technology of open file backup. Certain files such as MS Outlook mail box stores (.pst) and SQL Server databases (.mdf/.ldf) are always kept open by their respective applications and cannot be backed up using traditional mechanisms until the applications are stopped. SafeTrends 2.0 leverages the power of Microsoft Virtual Shadow Copy (VSS) technology to schedule and create backups for open files such as emails and databases which hold amounts of critical data.

According to their data needs, users can select Continuous, Trickle, or Scheduled protection of data.

In Continuous Protection mode, SafeTrends 2.0 continuously monitors the files in the user’s configured protection group and saves them as different versions on one or more selected locations.

In Trickle Protection mode, it continuously monitors files in the protection group and saves them as different versions in a temporary folder on the local disk. Using the time interval specified by the Trickle configuration, it transfers the different file versions to the selected backup locations. This feature is useful when continuous network access is unavailable, or if the user wants to defer remote transfers and perform other high priority primary tasks.

Scheduled Backup mode is the more traditional form of file protection. Rather than protecting files continuously as different versions, files are protected as different backup sets at regular intervals according to a user-defined schedule. Hourly, weekly, and monthly schedules are supported to facilitate backups according to specific user needs. SafeTrends 2.0 uses a patented algorithm to minimize the space requirement on remote destination(s) for the various data sets.

SafeTrends 2.0 features a streamlined GUI and configuration wizards to enable results even in the hands of a new user. The Recovery Wizard provided in SafeTrends 2.0 can be used to restore lost data in the event of data corruption, power outage, or similar catastrophes. It operates in a PowerSave mode for notebook PCs that conserves battery life by limiting backup tasks that consume CPU cycles and power. Since it runs locally on the desktop or notebook PC, it does not require any agents or additional software to be installed on another server in order to function.

American Megatrends India plans to market SafeTrends 2.0 through its channel partners across the country.
