Customer Benefits:

  • Improved Performance and Scalability: With VNX unified storage, Nexica has increased the availability and performance of its data center infrastructure by 100%, enabling it to deliver better quality of service and a more responsive and scalable solution to its customers.
  • Increased Efficiency and Cost Savings: Nexica achieved 20% cost savings with VNX by optimizing storage utilization and significantly reducing power usage.
  • Simplified Management: The integration of EMC Unisphere software with Cisco and VMWare virtualization and cloud infrastructure solutions in Nexica’s environment, allows its IT administrators to manage the company’s infrastructure through a single-pane view and spend less time on maintenance and configuration.

Customer Challenges and Solution:
With its previous storage solution, Nexica experienced management and performance challenges that impacted its ability to meet internal SLAs. Nexica’s environment required time-intensive management and lacked the scalability and availability needed to ensure the quality of service necessary for each client’s needs.

After consideration, Nexica selected VNX unified storage with EMC Unisphere for its performance, efficiency, simplicity and data protection, as well as EMC’s integration with Cisco and VMware. With VNX, Nexica has centralized and simplified its storage management, while having the required scalability and availability levels to automatically manage storage requirements needed to meet its client’s SLAs. The guarantee of integration with the other architecture components from Cisco and VMware-managed by EMC Unisphere-was important because Nexica’s environment also includes Cisco UCS blade servers and VMware vCenter, VMware vCloud Director and VMware vShield. ErmesTel, an EMC Velocity partner specializing in EMC storage and backup and recovery and a virtualization pioneer in Spain, implemented the project in three months.

David Suarez, Director of Technology and Operations, Nexica, said: "It is essential for us to have a powerful, efficient, and reliable platform as a foundation for the services that we build upon it. Our former infrastructure was not aligned with cloud computing requirements. With EMC, we now have the ability to automatically ensure that each client receives the best quality of services in accordance to their storage needs, as well as the ability to scale should their needs suddenly change."

"Since deploying EMC unified storage, we have been very pleased with the results as we have experienced 100% improvement in storage performance in relation to the previous infrastructure. We have also decided to standardize all of our services and mission critical applications on EMC unified storage."

Jordi Mas, Managing Director, Nexica, said: "Throughout this process, ErmesTel has understood our needs and has become our business advisor for technological decisions and strategy. They’ve accompanied us in implementing the new Cloud Computer architecture and proven themselves to be specialists in infrastructure consolidation."

Julio Gimenez Silva, Head of the Catalonia regional office, ErmesTel, said: "Right now, the EMC VNX unified storage, Cisco UCS and VMware combination is the most advanced solution available for developing a cloud computing project. As for storage, we chose EMC VNX unified storage to cover the first phase of deployment, with the confidence that we can simply scale the infrastructure to grow quickly and be more agile when the business requires in the future."
