Former Compellent CEO Phil Soran to Leave Dell

By Jean Jacques Maleval | January 24, 2012 at 3:03 pmPhil Soran, co-founder and former chairman, CEO and president of SAN company Compellent, acquired by Dell for $960 million in 2010, wrote in an email that he will be leaving Dell effective March 1. He was the president of Dell Compellent.
Before that, from 1995 to 2001, he served as president and CEO of SAN subsystem company Xiotech that he co-founded and was acquired by Seagate Technology in 2000 for $360 million. From 1992 to 1995, he was executive VP of Prodea Software, a data warehousing software company. From 1982 to 1992, he held a variety of management, sales, marketing and technical positions with IBM. He serves on the board of SPS Commerce, provider of on-demand supply chain management solutions. He was a director of Stellent from 2003 to 2006 until it was acquired by Oracle. He is board’s member of Hutchinson Technology since last year.
Before entering into into IT, Soran started his career as a math teacher in Colorado Springs, CO.
He received a B.A. in Education from the University of Northern Colorado.
He also wrote: "The integration is all complete and things are going very well with the acquisition as planned."
"I have no firm plans after leaving – but will spend time on philanthropic interests, entrepreneurial and business development in Minnesota, and want to spend more time on education reform, he added.
"These are all things I’ve been interested in for years and I’ll get a chance to focus on them."
