First revealed at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the Buffalo CloudStor, known in Europe and Asia as CloudStation, goes beyond simple storage, creating a portal to freely access and share photos, videos, music and much more with anyone over the Internet.

Unlike online storage services, CloudStor, available in 1TB and 2TB configurations, has no capacity or service fees and now includes 5GB of free cloud hosted storage for new and existing customers. Just plug it in, turn it on and create a free account at MyCloudStor.com.

CloudStor comes with everything needed to securely access and share content from any mobile device or remote computer, anytime and anywhere in the world.

"Digital content creation and consumption continues to fuel consumer demand for storage solutions that simplify data mobility and accessibility," said Brian Verenkoff, director of business development at Buffalo Technology. "By making CloudStor available worldwide, Buffalo has changed how storage is accessed and shared on a truly global scale."

The CloudStor family of personal cloud storage solutions now boasts an additional 5GB of free online storage that is scalable for a small fee. Consumers can now utilize the online capacity as additional high-performance cloud-based storage or as an off-site backup target.

With recent updates, including a new multi-language user interface, the CloudStor family features multi-user LAN access and the ability to set and modify LAN permissions, USB hard drive support on select models for expanding capacity or backing up CloudStor content, as well as Time Machine support for Mac OS Leopard, Snow Leopard and Lion.

At the core of CloudStor remains the Pogoplug cloud service from Cloud Engines, Inc., connecting users to their storage for unlimited access and sharing anywhere in the world. Files are securely shared between people with no need for user setup; just email a link to family and friends. Consumers’ digital content resides on their CloudStor and the online service is only used to connect users and guests to specified files on the device.

In addition, the CloudStor family of personal cloud storage solutions offers traditional consumer NAS features including private share support for LAN-based network sharing and pairing with the uTorrent client, now with RSS subscription support, allowing users to offload the task of downloading torrent files from their computers to CloudStor. Users can stream content to popular media player devices, including PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and backup Mac computer on their home network with integrated Time Machine support.
