100% Q/Q Growth in 2011 for Start-Up Tintri

Tintri, Inc., the producer of VM-aware storage appliances, announced its results for 2011.

After its March 24 launch, Tintri achieved more than 100% quarter-over-quarter growth and added over 40 new customers, including TIBCO, Digital Chocolate, iPass, Northwestern University, Norwegian School of Economics (NHH), Semmes-Murphey Neurologic and Spine Institute, Mitsubishi Electric Information Network Corporation (MIND), and Biglobe.

The company also expanded internationally, establishing a presence in both the APAC and EMEA markets.

Additionally, Tintri raised $18 million in Series C funding from NEA and Lightspeed Venture Partners to complement its initial funding rounds, bringing the total capital raised by the company to over $35 million.

To help accelerate its growth, Tintri doubled its employee base and appointed several executives to its existing team, including Marcus Chambers (VP of EMEA Operations, formerly of Riverbed) and Robert Villarreal (VP of Sales, formerly of NetApp). Key channel partnerships were also established with NOX and Zycko to expand Tintri’s presence in Japan and the United Kingdom, respectively.

Tintri VMstore is a storage appliance designed exclusively for VMs. It allows enterprises to broaden their virtual deployments via a purpose-built file system that offers VM-aware functionality and measures and controls I/O performance individually for each virtual disk in a system. Sophisticated data placement technology combined with inline de-duplication and compression allows Tintri to deliver flash performance for all VMs.

The second-generation Tintri VMstore appliance was released in October 2011 – less than eight months after the company shipped its first VM-aware storage appliance – and introduced new features including VM auto-alignment and bottleneck visualization. The company plans to roll out additional product updates in 2012.
