This partnership alone equates to a total of 1.0m pupils across 2,500+ schools whose data could now be protected.

Schools hold sensitive information and therefore fall within the UK’s Data Protection Act. Attix5’s software enables schools to comply with the data handling requirements which fall under the Act.

The Attix5 software provided is for schools as it is easy to use, requiring minimum administrative intervention, has restoration technology built in as standard and, it also saves on internal resources and storage.

The public sector as a whole is now under great pressure to ensure the data that they hold is stored securely. Schools are not exempt from this and there have been several examples of data breaches within schools within the last year. In August a Hampshire school suffered a data breach when a pupil hacked into the school’s system gaining access to pupil details. In March a school in North London had an encrypted laptop stolen from an unlocked office resulting in the breach of pupil data including personal details such as exam marks and medical information. In both instances, if Attix5 software had been installed the data would have been recovered and restored.

Talking about the importance of protecting school data Mike Law, Chief Executive at Attix5, said: "Through this deal we are now able to provide some of London’s most vulnerable citizens (children) with the most up-to-date, comprehensive data protection. Schools up and down the country are really starting to take data security seriously and I hope the rest of the public sector will follow suit."

Brian Durrant, Chief Executive of London Grid for Learning, comments: "We choose to work with Attix5 because they provide a fast and flexible service that meets our key aims of providing high quality systems at an affordable price."

Attix5 now protects over 60% of UK schools. Attix5 has been working in the background to protect schools since its inception in 1999.

The London Grid for Learning provides the entire London schools’ community with joined-up, affordable, fast, secure broadband and other related services.
