UK Ahead of Germany in Adoption of Virtualization

Survey from Vanson Bourne sponsored by Virtual Instruments

Virtual Instruments announced findings from an independent survey carried out by market research agency, Vanson Bourne.

The poll of a total of 200 IT decision makers in the UK and Germany aimed to uncover the share of end user organisations which have or are planning to move to a virtualised environment for business-critical applications such as SAP, Oracle and Exchange.

The main findings suggest that the UK is leading the way with 42% of respondents having already made the move opposed to just 23% in Germany.

The survey also unveiled that:

  • Not only is the UK ahead of Germany now but this trend is set to continue with these figures forecast to rise to 84% and 70% respectively two years hence
  • When looking at the trends of Germany and the UK together, one in three companies have already virtualised their environment for business-critical applications and this figure is set to rise to three out of four companies within two years;
  • In the UK the financial services sector is leading the way with over half of the respondents having already virtualised business-critical applications;
  • Size matters: across both countries, companies with 1,000 to 3,000 employees are ahead of larger organisations with this move.

Chris James, EMEA Marketing  Director at Virtual Instruments, commented on the results: "The survey confirmed the feedback we have been getting from end users and the channel that large enterprises in Europe are still reluctant to implement virtualisation and cloud technology for business-critical applications. This is largely because they can’t set SLAs due to lack of visibility into their infrastructure. This is where the Virtual Instruments VirtualWisdom real-time infrastructure monitoring solution can provide real benefit to companies wanting to exploit the advantages of a virtualised environment."
