InMage Brings Out vContinuum 3.0
Backup and replication software integrated with vCenter
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on December 14, 2011 at 2:53 pmInMage Systems announced vContinuum 3.0 at the Gartner Data Center Conference 2011.
vContinuum 3.0, the latest version of InMage’s backup and replication software for VMware ESX/vSphere environments, offers new features and enhancements that make it easier to protect virtual machines. vContinuum is integrated with VMware vCenter to discover, protect and recover at the vCenter level. This shortens deployment times, simplifies management and enhances security.
vContinuum 3.0 is a VMware backup and replication solution. Initial backup/replication over the WAN is now up to 80% faster with a new intelligent file system-aware feature that only targets used portions of the VM disk to create an initial copy of data. This provides benefits over other VMware solutions that do not have file system intelligence and thereby increase the amount of data that needs to be backed up and replicated.
vContinuum 3.0 is able to reduce time, capacity and bandwidth requirements when the first copy is made. Additionally, vContinuum 3.0 still utilizes CDP technology to eliminate backup windows, administrative headaches and other inefficiencies associated with traditional backups. vContinuum also reduces RTO with improved parallelized recovery that enables users to customize VM configurations, network settings and resource allocation in advance. This results in significant RTO gains for large VMware environments.
Another new 3.0 enhancement is failover orchestration for multi-tier applications. vContinuum’s multi-tier sequencing policies can recover applications spanning multiple servers in the shortest possible time. Recovery can be synchronized to the same time or application-consistent bookmark. vContinuum also offers extended support for granular restores. Individual mail objects can now be restored back to Exchange servers, and vContinuum supports both Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2010.
A benefit of vContinuum 3.0 is that it can be used to conduct non-disruptive, site-level disaster recovery testing. Although a vital task for today’s organizations, many do not conduct DR testing frequently or thoroughly due to impacts on production. vContinuum can perform isolated DR tests with zero impact to production, and without even pausing backup or replication.

vContinuum is also easy to manage with a wizard-based GUI that automates VM discovery, creation of protection policies, operational recovery scenarios and push-button failover and failback operations.
It can also accommodate any underlying hardware, storage architecture (DAS, SAN, NAS) and storage technology (SCSI, iSCSI, FC).
