Brocade Ships 50,000 16Gb FC Ports, Cisco FC Switch Revenues Jump

3Q11 report by Dell'Oro Group

A recently published report by Dell’Oro Group, the source for market information about the networking and telecommunications industries, indicates that the SAN market enjoyed record results in 3Q11.

The total SAN market comprised of FC and FCoE switches, controllers and adapters, posted a record quarter with revenues of over $775M on 3.1 million ports. The results were driven by strength in both FCoE and FC switches.

"If we breakdown the SAN switch market’s $63M net revenue increase quarter-over-quarter, $33M came from growth in FC switches and $30M from growth in FCoE switches. We continue to see strength in the FC market," said Casey Quillin, Analyst at Dell’Oro Group. "We definitely had a couple of interesting things happen this quarter. We saw Brocade ship over 50K 16 Gbps FC switch ports for a total of about $27M in calendar quarter revenues. We also saw Cisco’s FC switch revenues jump this quarter on the favorable increase of the ASPs of their Director Class switches," added Quillin.

The report discusses the outlook for market migration to 16 Gbps FC, as well as analyzes how FCoE is being deployed.
