LiveOffice File Archive: Cloud-Based Service
Using Box and Dropbox
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on December 5, 2011 at 3:22 pmLiveOffice LLC, provider of cloud-based email archiving, email compliance, email discovery and email continuity solutions, announced File Archive, a cloud-based service that archives documents from popular online file sharing platforms, including Box and Dropbox.
The service captures, stores and indexes all files uploaded to each file sharing service, allowing businesses to meet compliance, e-discovery and retention requirements while maintaining productivity and supporting end users’ use of valuable collaboration tools. File Archive also gives IT staff more control and visibility over the third-party tools being used on their networks.
"Easy-to-use collaboration services like Box and Dropbox allow employees flexibility to work across devices, but they also present the potential for serious compliance and e-discovery challenges for businesses," said LiveOffice CEO Nick Mehta. "The new LiveOffice File Archive provides the best of both worlds, allowing the flexibility these cloud apps offer, while also protecting businesses’ intellectual property. The solution ensures companies maintain control and visibility of essential company information, which keeps it secure and can also prevent hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of legal and compliance exposure."
Box is currently being used by more than 100,000 businesses, seven million users and 77 percent of the Fortune 500-and 250,000 new users join each month. Dropbox touts 45 million users, one million businesses and more than 80 percent of Fortune 100 companies-and another new user joins every second.
Employees are increasingly adopting cloud file sharing services, like Box and Dropbox, on an ad-hoc basis to collaborate on projects, increasing productivity, but creating documents that are not archived. This practice could result in legal and compliance risks as well as the loss of intellectual property.
File Archive uses each service’s API to securely capture, store and index the files uploaded to the service. LiveOffice stores the associated metadata from the content (user, modified date/time, file size, version, etc.) to provide additional context in searches. Additionally, LiveOffice maintains backup copies of files in the event of downtime or a catastrophic loss.
End users can perform searches in LiveOffice Personal Archive or administrators/legal teams can run them in LiveOffice Discovery Archive (automated retention policies do apply to these content types). Companies can also mine the dynamic repository of data for business intelligence, legal discovery or compliance needs.
LiveOffice is the first official member of the Box Innovation Network (/bin), a community of developers, including partners and members, who are building the next generation of apps on the Box platform to ignite innovation in the enterprise. File Archive integrates with Box and is helping the company get enterprise-ready. The /bin program has just been officially launched.
Pricing for LiveOffice File Archive is based on a per user, per month basis with unlimited storage.
