Versant Partnering With Kove
Object database paired with storage system

Corporation announced a partnership with Kove.
The two companies will combine Versant’s Object Database, known for
its data ingestion performance for complex information models,
with the Kove XPD2 Storage System to produce a fast
enterprise level storage system for large and complex data
volumes.
Recent benchmark tests comparing the Kove-Versant joint
solution to a standard storage system prove its performance.
The joint solution was tested against a standard system to measure execution
times for both small and large transactions as the number of processes
increased. The Kove-Versant system outperformed the standard system by almost
100 percent, with throughput for the joint solution actually increasing for
both tests while the standard system’s performance remained flat.
Performance such as this is needed to capitalize on the
opportunities presented by big data. IDC predicts that 1.8 zettabytes of data
will be created and replicated in 2011 – a number which may seem challenging to
most organizations, but, if wielded properly, presents opportunities to gain critical, actionable insight. In order to accomplish
this, storage systems that can handle large amounts of data while
simultaneously providing agile development, less coding and
a faster response time are needed. The Kove-Versant joint solution is designed
with these requirements in mind, and is capable of reducing disk
storage capacity needs by more than 50 percent.
"It’s easy to
understand how businesses can become overwhelmed in a world inundated with
data, but there is also a tremendous opportunity to take control and use this
information to their advantage," said Versant’s VP Product Strategy
and Marketing, Dirk Bartels. "Our
partnership with Kove provides an ideal solution for Big Data, allowing
businesses to manage and query large amounts of complex data and analyze it in
near real time to capitalize on key trends quickly, realize new revenue
streams, and enhance customer service."
"We’re pleased to
bring the power of Kove XPD2 storage together with Versant’s Database,"
said Kove CEO, John Overton. "We
believe this partnership will provide unmatched speed and scalability for data
analysts and scientists, especially those dealing with large data, enabling
them to make strategic decisions to increase the bottom line."
Versant’s Object Database is a data
management system for complex data, allowing for real-time analytical
performance, Big Data management, high availability and shorter development
time. The Kove XPD2 provides up to two terabytes of single or multiple file
system storage in a 4U chassis. Organizations can improve I/O load processing and remove storage bottlenecks, while
reducing the cost of data center space and power consumption on a performance
basis.
This new joint solution builds on Versant’s and Kove’s
expertise and provides several benefits for enterprises, including
direct persistence of Java or C++ object models, fast, agile development,
consistent performance across all I/O patterns, and increased performance for
complex data needs.
Versant was exhibiting at the Supercomputing 2011 Conference.
