Gladinet Introducing Cloud for Teams
Document sharing, access, and backup using S3, OpenStack, Google cloud storage
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on November 28, 2011 at 3:03 pmWith an install base of more than a million users, cloud storage access solution provider Gladinet, Inc. has received market confirmation for its cloud storage access platform.
Now, with the release of Gladinet Cloud for Teams, the company provides a solution for the ‘Basic’ cloud storage use cases (Backup, Access, Sharing, Identity, and Control).
When asked for comment on the new release, Jerry Huang, Gladinet’s CEO, responded: "We have two goals for this release. Primarily, we want to provide a centrally managed, end-to-end cloud storage access solution that would cater to SMB needs. Our second goal was to provide a solution that allowed our customers and partners to plug-in existing storage services such as Amazon S3, OpenStack or Google Cloud Storage."
As a result, the company released Cloud for Teams
with the following capabilities:
- Instant, anywhere access to cloud and local storage
- Central management of identities, quotas and access
- Centrally managed collaboration
- Cloud backup of important data
- Pluggable storage from Gladinet or an external customer account
The primary new feature in Cloud for Teams introduces the idea of attaching local folders to the cloud. These folders can be attached from any server or desktop client and are accessible to team members, based on permissions set by an administrator. Once a folder is attached, it is placed under version control so that changes from multiple users do not collide, and the folder will be migrated to the cloud in the background.
This feature allows SMBs to migrate their data to the cloud with instant accessibility and no interruption in availability. For example, there will be no data ingestion delays for large data sets. Customers can avoid mailing physical media to their provider when large data sets need to be migrated to the cloud. Instead, they now have the option of attaching these large folders to the cloud, thereby making the data immediately available to all team members while the data is migrated in the background.
Attached folders also create a file sharing solution. Instead of pushing around individual files in email attachments, users can collaboratively access common folders where their shared files are stored. And these shared folders are instantly accessible, regardless of the folder size.
Other features include integration with existing Gladinet products, such as Cloud Desktop and Cloud Server, which provide native access to the cloud from user desktops and file servers.
With the Gladinet Cloud, Gladinet customers get a centrally managed cloud storage solution for backup, access, and sharing, with identity-based access controls and collaboration. Both partners and customers benefit from the ability to integrate the solution with their choice of cloud storage services.
