Nexenta Systems, Inc. has partnered with Emulex
Corporation to enable customers of Nexenta’s unified storage management
platform, NexentaStor, to leverage Emulex
portfolio of enterprise-class connectivity solutions.
Nexenta has certified and supports Emulex OneConnect 10GbE Universal Converged
Network Adapters (UCNAs) and LightPulse 8G FC HBAs.
The
NexentaStor 3.1 certification of Emulex OneConnect adapters includes the
OCe11102-N 10GbE NIC. The certified solutions provide
customers with 10GbE-based network connectivity which
removes the overhead of network and storage traffic from the CPU with Emulex’s
vEngine TCP/IP hardware offload technology. Emulex’s UCNA platform consolidates
network and storage traffic on one adapter, helping clients reduce complexity
and lower networking costs.
In addition Nexenta certified Emulex’s LightPulse 8GFC FC HBAs, which enable the throughput, scalability and reliability
necessary for I/O-intensive applications and high-density virtual server
environments.
With the
adoption of open standards , Emulex and
Nexenta provide customers with industry standard storage
solutions. By providing I/O connectivity solutions, Emulex
adds value to the OpenStorage movement. Customers now have the
flexibility to deploy storage that meets or exceeds their business requirements
without a proprietary hardware stack.
"The shift from locked-in, legacy storage to
the new OpenStorage environment, allows companies of all sizes to deploy
enterprise-class storage solutions," said Brad Stone, vice president
of product management, Nexenta. "We
welcome the addition of Emulex and believe the storage monoliths of yesteryear
are in for some stiff competition from the OpenStorage ecosystem that includes
vendors like Emulex and Nexenta."
"We’ve worked with Nexenta to create a
solution that enables customers adopting OpenStorage to leverage our
industry-leading 10GbE and Fibre Channel adapters," said Shaun Walsh,
vice president of marketing, Emulex. "Together,
we are providing solutions using the NexentaStor platform that meet the storage
and server connectivity needs of our customers."
In a related
effort, Emulex has joined the Illumos Foundation to ensure embedded support for current
and upcoming products. The Illumos project is a community-driven fork of the
OpenSolaris operating system.
"Illumos was created to stand independently
from OpenSolaris, and provide a point of collaboration for the OpenSolaris and
Solaris communities," said Illumos Community Leader Garrett D’Amore.
"Emulex will prove to be a crucial
contributor to the advancement of the Illumos conservancy."
With this
certification, Emulex HBAs, CNAs and NICs are available for use in the
NexentaStor installed base and the Illumos community.
